What is the Apera Pocket Multi-Parameter Tester?

It’s the newest generation of portable testers aimed at improving the user experience when measuring pH, conductivity, TDS, salinity, resistivity and temperature.

You can calibrate, measure, back up and share your data effortlessly through the ZenTest mobile App.

Summary: The Apera 60-Z Series (previously known as IONIX) are pocket testers with bluetooth and digital features.

How is this different from the other range of pocket testers?

If you compare it's function, it isn't different from any other pocket testers but is popular because it offers:

1) the same capabilities as other leading brands, 2) it can help automate measurements and processing of data and, 3) it comes in a complete kit for a similar price to just a stand alone pocket tester from other leading brands.

Summary: The Apera 60-Z pockter tester series are the equivalent of other well-known pocket meters. It has more capabilities, provides better user experience and it comes in a complete kit.

Is the Apera Pocket Multi-Parameter Tester right for me?

If you're looking to measure general water solutions (pH, conductivity, TDS, salinity, resistivity and temperature, ORP comes separately), particularly out in the field, then this is right for you. Suitable for pool testing.

Alternatively, the pH60S-Z model can be used for measuring soft solid samples and the pH60F-Z model can be used for flat surfaces and/or small volumes of liquid.

Summary: The Apera 60-Z Series is suitable for measuring general water solutions, soft solid samples, flat surfaces and small volumes of liquid.

Answered Questions

Question:     Can this be used to test semi-solids?
Answer:        Yes

Question:     Can this be used for testing pools?
Answer:        Yes

Question:     Is this one suitable for continuous monitoring of pH and conductivity for a long-term?
Answer:        Each test is a single procedure you must follow so you can spot check but not continuous.

Question:     Would this be good for soil testing?
Answer:        I don't know for sure but doubt it. The actual sensing probe is pretty sensitive. The manufacturer recommends to not wipe it down too vigorously.

Question:     Does the app work without the cloud, ergo can you use it when there is no cellular network?
Answer:       The device works with the app connected by bluetooth only. No clouds needed! The device will also work independently without the phone as well.

Question:     How many ml calibration liquids in each bottle?
Answer:        For the calibration liquid comes with the kit, it is about 50ml in each bottle.

Question:     Has anyone used this to test sourdough starter pH?
Answer:       The standard Apera pH meter was used to test a sourdough starter as follows: 2 grams of active sourdough starter was mixed into 18 grams (milliliters) distilled water and the pH measured on the water. The pH found was 3.8. When measuring pH of a semi-solid such as bread dough, there may not be enough moisture to get an accurate pH. There must be sufficient water to permit ion mobility. A suitably wet sourdough starter, of the consistency of pancake batter, would be measurable with a pH electrode.

Question:     Do I need to use buffer powder to test pH?
Answer:        No you just need buffer solution to calibrate the meter. No buffer is required during actual pH testing
.

Question:     Does this measure the salt level?
Answer:        PC60-Z also measures Salinity. Its salinity range is 0-10.0 ppt (parts per thousand).

Question:     Does this come in a case?
Answer:        Yes, case in included.

Question:     Can I use this meter to test the pH of homemade syrups? Or do I need to buy an attachment?
Answer:        PH60S-Z is suitable for testing the pH of semi-solid/solid samples. Additional sensors would not be needed for measuring syrups.

Question:     What is the TDS range in ppm?
Answer:        0-10,000 ppm

Question:     Can you replace just the probe?
Answer:        Yes, the probe can be found here.

Question:     Does it float?
Answer:        No, it’s meant to be immersed in water.

Question:     Does the product have a calibration or quality certificate?
Answer:        Yes, the quality certificate is included in the package.

Question:     Can this be mounted to be submerged constantly for around the clock monitoring?
Answer:        As far as I know, the answer is no. If for no other reason that it’s battery saving feature would shut itself down.

Question:     How often does this need to be calibrated? And what is the process for calibration?
Answer:        I calibrate mine weekly, sometimes more frequently. The calibration process is very simple and is no different than other pH probes.

Question:     Can I use this for sushi rice?
Answer:        For sushi rice, our pH60S-Z Bluetooth smart pH tester with a spear probe would be better. Please view here.
