Recombinant mouse EPHA7 (amino acids 580-end) was expressed by baculovirus in Sf9 insect cells using an N-terminal GST tag. EPHA7 is a member of the ephrin receptor subfamily of protein-tyrosine kinases family that have been implicated in mediating developmental events, particularly in the nervous system. Receptors in the EPH subfamily typically have a single kinase domain and an extracellular region containing a Cys-rich domain and 2-fibronectin types III repeats. EPHA7 mediated signaling act as a physiologic trigger for apoptosis that can alter brain size and shape by regulating the number of neural progenitors.
